The short version: Spell & Sum is bought by a parent, for their own children, and stores about as little as a service like this can. There are no ads, no cross-site tracking, and nothing here is sold.

Children do not have accounts

You hold the account. Children never sign in, and we never knowingly collect personal information from a child. A “child profile” is a label you type so you can tell your own saved settings apart, and it holds exactly two things:

No birthday, no school, no email address, no photograph, no scores, no location. Those fields do not exist in our database, so there is nothing to leak, subpoena or sell.

What we store about you

Worksheets themselves are not stored as files. We keep the settings and a number used to regenerate them, which is smaller and means an old sheet can be reprinted exactly.

What we do not do

Cookies

One cookie, to keep you signed in. It is not used for advertising and not shared. Your browser also stores your time zone locally so we only send it once.

Email

We email sign-in links and messages about your subscription — a reminder three days before a trial converts, and a note if a card is declined. There is no marketing list to unsubscribe from, because we do not run one.

Deleting everything

Email hello@spellandsum.com and ask. Your account, children, saved settings and history are deleted, not anonymised and kept. Stripe retains payment records for as long as tax law requires, which is out of our hands.

Where the data lives

On servers in the United States, with Stripe as the payment processor and a transactional email provider for the messages above. That is the entire list of companies your data touches.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, account holders get an email — not a quietly edited page.
