Practice that isn’t another screen
Paste the words that came home this week — one per line, or however the school sheet had them, numbering and all. Each one comes back with what it means, written for a child, and a sentence showing it in use.
A page you can print and leave on the kitchen table: every word, its meaning in plain language, and an example sentence where the dictionary has one. No screen for the child, no login for them, nothing to install.
Definitions come from Simple English Wiktionary, which is written in deliberately simple language for people learning English — so the definition of “scrawny” is “a scrawny person is thin and weak” rather than something a child would need a second dictionary for.
Spell & Sum also makes printable maths practice, with the answer key. See the worksheet pages.
